1. A-Ma Temple

A-Ma Temple is Macao’s oldest and most atmospheric temple complex, surrounded by stone steps, incense coils, shrines, and granite boulders that make it feel deeply spiritual. It tells the story of Macao’s origins and offers a peaceful cultural backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the city’s modern energy.

2. Mount Fortress (Monte Fort)

Mount Fortress, built between 1617 and 1626, is one of Macao’s most important historical sites. Once equipped with cannons, barracks, and supplies, it stood as a strategic defense point overlooking the city. Today, it houses the Macao Museum at its center and offers sweeping panoramic views from Mount Fortress Garden.

3. Ruins of St. Paul’s (Former Mater Dei Church & St. Paul’s College)

The Ruins of St. Paul’s are all that remain of the 17th-century Mater Dei Church and St. Paul’s College after a fire in 1835. The iconic baroque façade blends European craftsmanship with Chinese motifs, symbolizing Macao’s cultural fusion. After extensive archaeological work in the 1990s, the Sacred Art Museum and Crypt were opened to the public.

Sacred Art Museum & Crypt: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (last entry 5:30 PM); 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Tuesdays; open on public holidays

4. Guia Fortress & Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows

If you like gentle walking and pretty views, this spot is perfect. Guia Fortress feels like a peaceful hilltop escape with fresh air and a little chapel with unique Chinese-style frescoes. Moreover, standing tall as Macao’s oldest coastal guide, the Guia Lighthouse still symbolizes the city’s blend of history, navigation, and multicultural roots. It’s simple, scenic, and a nice break from the busy city vibe.

5. Coloane Village

Coloane Village is the slowest, softest side of Macao. Here you can easily spot temples, seaside lanes, cosy shops, and a peaceful, almost nostalgic vibe. It’s great for travelers who want to see “real, local Macao” without crowds. Plus, it's perfect for relaxed morning walks.

6. Taipa Houses

The Taipa Houses are mesmerizing and photogenic Portuguese villas by the lakeside. Inside, travelers can see how old Macanese families lived. These houses pose a great contrast to Cotai’s shiny skyline.

8. Eiffel Tower Grand Illumination Show (The Parisian Macao)

Parisian Macao’s half-scale Eiffel Tower dazzles each evening with the Grand Illumination Show. Powered by 6,600 lights and set to smooth jazz, this magical 15-minute interval display illuminates the skyline. For the best view, head to Le Jardin and enjoy the sparkling spectacle for free.
