Your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the single most important piece of online real estate your travel agency owns. It appears in Google Search and Google Maps whenever someone searches for your agency by name or for travel services in your city. It displays your star rating, number of reviews, photos, business hours, phone number, website, and a direct messaging option — all without requiring the searcher to visit your website.
Claiming and fully optimizing your Google Business Profile is non-negotiable. If you have not claimed your profile, a competitor or former disgruntled employee can suggest edits to your listing — including incorrect addresses, wrong phone numbers, or even false category changes. Claimed profiles also rank higher in local search results than unclaimed ones.
Google Business Profile Optimization Checklist
• Business name: Use your exact registered business name — do not stuff keywords like 'Best Tours Mumbai' unless that is your actual business name. Google penalizes keyword stuffing in business names.
• Category: Select 'Travel Agency' as your primary category. Add secondary categories such as 'Tour Operator,' 'Vacation Home Rental Agency,' or 'Airline Ticket Agency' where applicable.
• Address: Use your exact registered office address. For home-based agencies, use the service area feature instead — set your service area to the cities or regions you serve.
• Phone number: Use a consistently formatted Indian mobile or landline number that matches exactly what appears on your website listing — consistency across platforms is a ranking signal.
• Website: Link to your actual agency website, not a third-party booking site. If you do not have a website, this is a separate priority.
• Business hours: Keep these accurate and update them for public holidays. Clients who call outside your stated hours and reach voicemail often leave no message and call a competitor instead.
• Photos: Upload a minimum of 20 photos — your office exterior (so clients can find you), office interior, team photos, destination photos from trips you have organized, happy client group photos (with permission), and sample itinerary documents. Profiles with 20+ photos receive 35% more click-throughs than profiles with fewer than 5 photos.
• Description: Write a 750-character agency description using relevant keywords — 'Europe tour packages from Mumbai,' 'honeymoon travel planner Bengaluru,' 'Rajasthan group tours' — without making it read like a keyword list. Write for the client first, search engine second.
• Posts: Use the Google Posts feature to publish weekly updates — new destination packages, seasonal offers, client testimonial highlights, and travel tips. Posts appear on your listing and signal an active, engaged business to both Google and searchers.
