Rising from the Thar Desert in Jaisalmer, Jaisalmer Fort is known as one of the world’s few “living forts.” Built in the 12th century, it still houses thousands of residents, temples, shops, and narrow streets within its walls. Historians note that its golden sandstone architecture gives the fort its famous “Golden City” appearance.
