Located in Maharashtra, Lonar Lake was formed around 50,000 years ago when a meteor struck Earth’s basalt rock surface. The circular crater spans nearly two kilometers in diameter and contains unique alkaline and saline water. Scientists highlight that Lonar is one of the world’s few meteor-impact lakes formed in basaltic terrain.
