Serbia has secured an additional €100 million loan from the European Investment Bank to advance the Niš–Dimitrovgrad rail upgrade, raising the project’s total cost to €502 million. The 86-kilometer section will be electrified, modernized with new signaling, and include a bypass to improve flow. Travel speeds will increase to 120 km/h, boosting efficiency for passengers and freight. Scheduled for completion by 2027, the project strengthens Serbia–Bulgaria connectivity and regional economic integration.
This Rail Upgrade Could Quietly Redefine Serbia’s Link to Europe
