Scientists have documented enormous underground tunnels across parts of South America, particularly Brazil, known as paleoburrows. These structures are believed to have been excavated thousands of years ago by giant extinct animals, including prehistoric ground sloths and armadillo-like mammals. Some tunnels feature extensive passageways and distinctive claw marks on their walls. The discoveries offer researchers valuable insights into prehistoric wildlife, ancient ecosystems and the remarkable engineering abilities of long-extinct species.
