Speedboat rides from Mumbai’s Gateway of India to Alibaug and Elephanta Caves could become cheaper after authorities responded positively to a proposal to reduce the INR 92.04 per-passenger jetty charge at Jetty No. 5. Currently, fares range from INR 600–INR 800. Speedboats complete the Gateway–Alibaug journey in 20–25 minutes, faster than wooden boats. Lower jetty charges could reduce passenger fares and encourage sea-based tourism between Mumbai, Alibaug and Elephanta destinations.
