The Mizoram government is implementing the Protected Area Permit (PAP) system for foreign visitors, following a directive from the Centre to reimpose PAP in Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland due to security concerns. Home Secretary Vanlalmawia confirmed efforts to establish a holding area at Lengpui airport and urged the Centre to open a Foreigners Registration Office in Aizawl. Initially relaxed in 2011 to boost tourism, PAP was reinstated in December 2023 amid concerns over unauthorized foreign movement into Myanmar.
