A team from Maharashtra, India, is in Paris to nominate twelve forts associated with the legendary ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for UNESCO World Heritage status. The proposal, titled “Maratha Military Landscape of India,” highlights the forts’ significance in the Maratha Empire’s military history. The forts included are Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Panhala, Shivneri, Lohagad, Salher, Sindhudurg, Suvarnadurg, Vijaydurg, and Khanderi, all located in Maharashtra, along with Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu.
