Japan is increasing fees for climbing Mount Fuji to manage overtourism. Starting this July, all four main trails will require a 4,000 yen ($27) entry fee, doubling the previous charge on the Yoshida Trail. Shizuoka Prefecture will introduce fees for its three trails, previously free. With over 204,000 climbers in 2024, officials stress safety and crowd control. Additionally, Japan is raising accommodation taxes and considering a departure tax hike to address its tourism boom, which hit a record 36.9 million visitors last year.
