Japan has secured the top position in the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index 2026, followed by the United States, Spain, Australia and France. The index evaluates 110 economies based on factors supporting tourism development, including infrastructure, connectivity, resources and sustainability. Overall, 101 economies improved their scores between 2024 and 2026. The findings highlight growing tourism readiness worldwide, alongside challenges such as rising costs, workforce shortages and sustainability pressures.
