Japan will introduce a mandatory ¥4,000 ($27) fee for all four main Mount Fuji trails this summer to manage overcrowding and protect the environment. Previously, only the Yoshida Trail had a ¥2,000 fee. Shizuoka Prefecture is now imposing the same charge on its three trails. Authorities have also capped daily climbers and require online reservations to minimize environmental impact. Despite restrictions, Mount Fuji saw 204,000 climbers in 2023. Officials aim to balance tourism and conservation while preserving Japan’s iconic peak.
