Indian Railways is planning a major underground railway line to strengthen connectivity across India’s North-East, while boosting security and economic development. The project will create a secure, uninterrupted rail link through the Siliguri Corridor, a strategically sensitive region. Officials say the underground route will support defence logistics, improve passenger and freight movement, reduce disruption risks, and unlock long-term growth, tourism, and trade opportunities across the North-Eastern states.
