India Railways has implemented a nationwide timetable revision from January 1, 2026, aimed at delivering faster journeys, improved punctuality, and stronger connectivity. Under the updated schedule, 549 passenger trains will operate at higher speeds, supported by infrastructure upgrades and optimized stoppages. The overhaul also adds new services to enhance regional and intercity links. The changes reinforce railways as a low-carbon transport option, helping reduce congestion, lower emissions, and support economic activity across India.
