India’s Union Cabinet has approved ₹24,634 crore worth of railway multitracking projects across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. Adding 894 route kilometres, the initiative will enhance freight capacity by 78 million tonnes annually while improving passenger travel and regional connectivity. Beyond logistics, the expansion will spur tourism by linking key heritage and wildlife destinations, creating jobs, and strengthening India’s position as a global leader in sustainable rail infrastructure.
