Chennai Metro Rail Limited is targeting mid-2027 to begin fully driverless train operations on its Phase-2 network. The trains will initially operate with two onboard operators while automated systems undergo testing and certification. Fifteen three-car trains are expected to run at 10-minute intervals, with each carrying up to 900 passengers. The trains have a maximum design speed of 80 kmph, marking a major step in Chennai’s urban transport network.
