Japan is set to launch JESTA, an electronic travel authorization system similar to Australia’s ETA visa, to streamline immigration, enhance security, and manage tourism flows. The e-visa will apply to citizens from 71 visa-exempt countries for stays up to 90 days. Travelers must complete an online ETA application before arrival. With a goal of 60 million visitors by 2030, Japan is addressing overtourism challenges, including increasing fees for Mount Fuji’s Yoshida trail and exploring solutions for other popular destinations.
