India’s tourism sector is projected to double to $523 billion in the next decade, employing 63 million people, according to WTTC President Julia Simpson. Currently valued at $256 billion, tourism contributes 7% to India’s economy. While tourism accounts for 5% of India’s greenhouse gas emissions, efforts are underway for sustainability. Simpson emphasized the need for sustainable aviation fuel and coastal protection. She praised India’s hospitality and PM Modi’s focus on renewable energy to advance eco-friendly tourism.
