Mumbai Metro One has begun procuring 22 additional coaches to convert existing four-coach trains on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor into six-coach formations. The upgrade is expected to increase passenger capacity by more than 50%, helping ease peak-hour congestion. A six-coach train could accommodate around 1,792 passengers, compared with approximately 1,178 currently. The project will be implemented in phases, subject to financial restructuring and availability of funds.
