Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has launched the expanded Vettri Payanam scheme, offering free travel to women and transgender passengers on additional government bus services. The initiative covers Express, Limited Stop, Deluxe and Mofussil buses, expanding access beyond ordinary services. Around 84.32 lakh women are expected to benefit daily, with 12,692 government buses included. The scheme aims to improve access to education, workplaces, healthcare and essential services.
