Tamil Nadu is planning a tourism upgrade for Mahabalipuram, with INR 200 crore earmarked to transform the UNESCO World Heritage destination into an international-standard tourism and spiritual hub. The project is being planned in collaboration with the Union Government. The makeover will focus on visitor amenities, heritage infrastructure and tourism facilities. Tamil Nadu is focusing on pilgrimage, medical, agri and adventure tourism, river tourism, and training guides in foreign languages.
