Ladakh has approved an eco-tourism initiative to develop India’s first high-altitude wildlife safari, creating a new nature-based tourism experience in the Himalayan region. Twenty local youths will be selected and trained in birdwatching, bird identification and bird-spotting skills as part of the initiative. The programme combines wildlife tourism with community participation and employment opportunities. It also diversifies Ladakh’s tourism offering beyond conventional sightseeing, strengthening sustainable, conservation-oriented and locally supported travel experiences.
