India is set to introduce 260 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains to modernise long-distance rail travel nationwide. Designed for journeys up to 1,500 kilometres, the new trains will offer faster travel times, enhanced comfort, and improved safety features. Two services are already operational, with phased manufacturing and rollout planned to expand coverage based on route demand and infrastructure readiness, marking a major upgrade in India’s intercity rail network.
