The Dutch Council of State has approved ProRail’s €246 million upgrade of the Amsterdam–Alkmaar rail line, with work starting in 2026 and completion set for 2031. The project will expand capacity to handle up to six intercity and six regional trains per hour, modernize stations at Alkmaar and Uitgeest, and add a new train stabling facility at Heerhugowaard. Safety upgrades and noise barriers will ensure smoother, safer, and more sustainable travel.
