Italy has announced a €1.6 billion overhaul of the Paola–Cosenza rail section in Calabria, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, reducing travel times, and strengthening economic growth. Key features include a 15 km Santomarco twin-tube tunnel, new bridges, viaducts, and a railway station in Montalto Uffugo. The project will improve passenger mobility, freight efficiency, and job creation, integrating Calabria more closely with Italy’s high-speed rail network and supporting long-term regional development.
