Japan welcomed a record 3.7 million foreign visitors in May 2025, a 21.5% year-on-year increase, despite the end of cherry blossom season. South Korea and India saw strong gains, while 19 other markets also hit monthly highs. From January to May, arrivals rose 23.9% to 18.1 million. While urban hubs face overcrowding, Japan is promoting regional tourism to balance growth and sustain its booming travel sector.
